Mike Houghton, 'Beaver Steer' owner and an all round nice (and patient!) Kiwi chap, sent me these photos back in December of the Southern Classic Commercials out and about before the holiday season. Without any further ado, here's a fine selection of mostly larger classics.
Above: ERF A-series. Bogie-drive examples were local modifications? Below: this looks quite Chev to me. Can anyone confirm?
Below: very tidy White Road Boss (?) slotting between its English sisters.
Above: it's always great to see one of these cabs in good nick. Leyland Boxer (I'm guessing) looking like she still puts in a hard day's work. Below: Mike's pride and joy.

Above: a fine pair of Inters head the line up in this photo. The AB is a fire appliance and 4WD while the AA reminds me of a photo I took recently...
Andy and Mike,
ReplyDeleteLove the Brenics ERF - what model is it???
Joe
Hi Joe, I reckon she's an A-series.
ReplyDeleteThe Chev lookalike is an Oldsmobile and in like new condition.
ReplyDeleteThe Boxer is still working every day and goes very well. It also did the South Is circuit for the Long Lap.
The A series ERF also works for a living part time,as does most of Alex McLellan's classic fleet. He might paint it into fleet colours one day.
Cheers- Mike H
Hi Andy,
ReplyDeleteMike has confirmed it as a A-Series!
Mike,
Have you had a chance to post it to CCMV??? Would be a good one to see there!
Joe
Indeed he has Joe (thanks Mike). I won't be posting it on CCMV as it is not my photo. That's up to Mike. H probably has a pic of it or will post one eventually.
ReplyDeleteTa Andy - I want to see some more of that ERF! She looks like she'd still be able to make a crust!???
ReplyDeleteHi Mike
ReplyDeleteIs that Leyland a Beaver? I have never seen a Chinese Six one, was that a conversion or a Leyland original?
Hi Vic
ReplyDeleteSorry about the delay.
yes, it is a Beaver that was fitted with the extra steerer by Leyland Motors NZ in either Auck or ChCh.
It arrived from the UK with the axle and steering box in a crate on the chassis.
I drove it new as an 8 wheeler with a lift up tag 4th axle.
I found it in a paddock in 2002 and it was all downhill from there!
Cheers
Mike
